ARTT 275 - Art of the Renaissance World


A survey of Renaissance art and its global impacts during the 15th and 16th centuries. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 011 . Three hours each week.

3 semester hours

Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Identify a diversity of Renaissance era artists, artworks, styles, and theories.
  • Describe the visual qualities, styles, content, and modes of display of a Renaissance era work of art.
  • Perform a visual, stylistic, and contextual analysis of a Renaissance era work of art.
  • Explain the function, meaning or significance of a Renaissance era work of art or architecture in its historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts.
  • Compare and contrast two or more works of Renaissance era art across a body of work, cultures of origin, time periods, theoretical frameworks, or artistic traditions.
  • Develop and support art historical arguments using relevant theoretical frameworks, visual, and contextual evidence.
  • Justify the attribution of a work of Renaissance art by artist, style, theoretical framework, or movement.
  • Locate and evaluate the artistic production of Renaissance era artists within the scope of global art history.
  • Analyze the differences as well as commonalities among peoples by studying the ideas, history, values, and/or creative expressions of Renaissance era artists from diverse cultures of origins.
  • Examine the impact of international cultural institutions on the creation, interpretation and understanding of art in the Renaissance era.
