ARTT 285 - Global Contemporary Art An exploration of Global Contemporary art and theory from the late 20th century to the present with an emphasis on the historical and cultural contexts of the creation and reception of art. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 011 . Three hours each week.

Course Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify a diverse group of Global Contemporary artists, artworks, styles, and theories. Describe the visual qualities, styles, content, and modes of display of a Global Contemporary work of art.
- Demonstrate proficiency in visual, stylistic, and contextual analysis of a Global Contemporary work of art.
- Explain the function, meaning or significance of a Global Contemporary work of art or architecture in its historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts.
- Compare and contrast two or more works of Global Contemporary art across a body of work, cultures of origin, time periods, theoretical frameworks, or artistic traditions.
- Develop and support arguments related to art history using relevant theoretical frameworks, visual, and contextual evidence.
- Justify the attribution of a work of Global Contemporary art by artist, style, theoretical framework, or movement.
- Locate and evaluate the artistic production of contemporary artists within the scope of global art history.
- Analyze the differences as well as commonalities among peoples by studying the ideas, history, values, and/or creative expressions of contemporary artists from diverse cultures of origins.
- Examine the impact of international cultural institutions on the creation, interpretation and understanding of Global Contemporary art.
