CMAP 106 - Computer Use and Management An introduction to computers, operating systems, and Internet basics. Topics include file and hard drive management, customizing the Windows environment, transferring data between applications, installing and running hardware and software, utilizing e-mail, and effectively finding, using, and downloading information, software, and research materials from the Internet. Assessment Level(s): AELW 930 /ENGL 002 , AELR 930 /READ 099 . Three hours each week. Formerly CA 106.

Course Outcomes: Upon course completion, a student will be able to:
- Apply file management skills effectively such as manage, backup, organize, compress, locate and access files.
- Identify the computer’s components: basic functions and maintenance techniques
- Differentiate between operating systems, application software, and utilities.
- Navigate, manage, and customize the Windows environment.
- Operate Windows accessories competently.
- Identify and use major web elements such as email, attachments, social networking, and search engines
- Identify Internet security concerns such as privacy, censorship, fraud, viruses, firewalls, cookies, and other related topics.
