HLTH 125 - Personalized Health Fitness


(HLTF)

This course is designed to assist students in the development of a lifelong commitment to a wellness lifestyle with emphasis on regular participation in health-related fitness activities. Core concepts, methods, and behavior management techniques related to the development and maintenance of fitness, nutrition and weight management, managing stress, and reducing risks associated with various lifestyle-related diseases will be examined, assessed, and evaluated. Students will develop and implement a comprehensive fitness and wellness plan to achieve a healthier lifestyle. The course includes participation in instructional exercise sessions, with additional opportunities for students to utilize the fitness facilities beyond the scheduled class times. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 101A , READ 120 . Three hours each week. Formerly HE 109.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Define a wellness lifestyle and explain the dimensions of wellness and the role of healthy and unhealthy choices that may enhance health or contribute to early morbidity and mortality.
  • Explain the role of a physically active lifestyle in achieving an optimal state of well-being and as method of prevention for the development of chronic disease.
  • Apply behavioral change strategies to development of a wellness lifestyle management plan.
  • Identify, explain, and develop a comprehensive fitness program that incorporates all aspects of health-relates physical fitness components based on sound scientific principles.
  • Recognize factors and lifestyle choices that contribute to healthy body composition.
  • Explain various acceptable ways of coping with stress including relaxation techniques.
  • Identify, explain, and develop the components of a healthy diet.
