BIOL 106 - Environmental Biology Laboratory (NSLD, GEEL)
A combination of laboratory investigations and field trips is used to introduce students to the scientific method and experimental design, demonstrate basic ecological principles, and familiarize students with local resources. A combination of BIOL 105 and BIOL 106 must be taken to satisfy the NSLD General Education requirement. PRE- or COREQUISITE(S): BIOL 105 Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 011 , MATH 050 , READ 120 . Course may be repeated without the corequisite with consent of department. Three hours laboratory each week. Formerly BI 105B.
1 semester hour
May not be taken concurrently with MATH 017 or MATH 020 or MATH 045 without appropriate Math assessment score.
Course Outcomes: Upon course completion, a student will be able to:
- Formulate a scientific hypothesis and design and execute a controlled experiment to test it.
- Communicate experimental results by creating and interpreting data tables and graphs.
- Characterize the ecology of at least one local natural resource and describe the impact of human activity on this resource.
- Describe briefly the function of any local power plants, water treatment plants, or other facilities visited on field trips and explain how the operation of this facility impacts the environment.
