HLTH 200 - Health Issues in Human Sexuality


(GEIR, GEEL, GCP)

An introduction to the health issues of human sexuality, including, but not limited to, reproduction and contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, health issues for special populations, and sexual health through the life span. In this course, we will provide students with information that will empower them to make responsible and appropriate decisions regarding their sexual behavior. This course will focus on the health aspects of sexual behavior. Sexuality is a multifaceted and interdisciplinary topic; however, emphasis in this course is on health issues from a healthy lifestyle perspective. Students interested in exploring the psychological nature of sexuality are encouraged to enroll in PSYC 206 Psychology of Human Sexuality. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 011  Three hours each week. Formerly HE 112.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Evaluate personal attitudes and beliefs that may influence their sexuality related behaviors, and how this can impact their interactions with others.
  • Identify and explain cultural and psychological factors that influence people’s sexuality-related behaviors.
  • Identify specific sexual health issues affecting college students and adolescents.
  • Evaluate media and explain the impact it can have on people’s understanding of sexuality.
