AUTO 101 - Introduction to Automotive Technology


(R only) CE

An introduction to the operating systems of the modern automobile. Explores current changes in the industry along with career opportunities. Covers identification and the safe use of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools used in automotive service. Explains the basic operating procedures of shop equipment. Presents Occupational Safety and Health Act standards pertaining to the automotive field for greater individual and environmental safety. Two hours lecture, two hours laboratory each week.

3 semester hours

Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Identify and explain components, subsystems, and operation of all basic vehicle systems.
  • Identify and demonstrate the proper and safe use of common automotive tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate shop safety and hazardous waste knowledge in all repairs and service performed.
  • Perform testing/service/repair/removal/installation in all automotive systems covered in this course.
  • Demonstrate effective navigation and interpretation of service information.
  • Explain and demonstrate knowledge of various automotive career opportunities.
