LGST 250 - Paralegal Internship


Students will gain on the job training and practical experience as a paralegal. The intent is to give students an appropriate work experience that will expand their knowledge and aide them in making career decisions. Responsibilities will include assisting attorneys with preparing court documents, client interviews, and appearing in court. In lieu of clinic, students may be placed within their current employment under the supervision of an attorney to participate in legal work. PREREQUISITE(S): LGST 101 , LGST 102 , LGST 103 LGST 104 , LGST 106 , LGST 122 , and with a grade point average of 3.0 or better in all LGST courses. Students are required to complete 45 hours of 50 minutes each for one credit hour including a one-hour weekly seminar.

Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Perform routine law office procedures including using software common to the practice of law.
  • Develop professional interpersonal skills by participating in client intake activities.
  • Engage in legal writing and research.
  • Demonstrate organizational and oral communication skills in managing legal tasks and supporting case preparation.
  • Assist and observe attorneys during court proceedings to gain exposure to courtroom protocol.
