FILM 200 - Introduction to Film Studies Explores the global history of film as an artform and ‘way of seeing’ from the 19th century to the present. Students will develop visual and media literacy skills through understanding the art and science of film as a creative process and the history of film as a mode of visual communication. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 011 . Three hours each week.
3 semester hours
Course Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify a diversity of filmmakers, films, styles, and filmmaking techniques.
- Describe the visual qualities, style, and content of a film.
- Critically examine films using visual, comparative, and contextual analysis.
- Analyze a film in the context of global film history.
- Explain the impacts of film and filmmaking on viewers, society, and culture.
- Examine the factors that influence the creation and reception of film (i.e., technology, industry, institutions, etc.).
