DANC 103 - Modern Dance I (R and TP/SS only)
An introduction to fundamental exercises, techniques, and movement phrases of modern dance. Basic modern dance principles are introduced in axial and locomotor exercises and basic improvisation skills. Modern dance innovators and their styles are discussed. One hour lecture, two hours laboratory each week.
2 semester hours
Course Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Recognize and demonstrate fundamental modern dance technique, including floor work, center exercises, and locomotor combinations.
- Explore movement through improvisation.
- Recognize and use a working vocabulary for modern dance technique.
- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the expressive nature of ballet as an art form through participation and performance.
