EDUC 246 - Assessment of Literacy Designed to assist teacher candidates and in-service teachers in becoming proficient consumers and users of classroom-based assessment and assessment data. Participants will explore the purposes of assessments and types of assessment tools, learn how to administer and use valid and reliable, formal and informal assessments of literacy and related skills, examine how to effectively interpret the results of assessments, and learn how to communicate assessment results in a variety of contexts. Additionally, students will engage in comprehending the utility of qualitative and quantitative data in a myriad of contexts to inform instructional decisions and designs. PREREQUISITE(S): EDUC 243 or consent of department. Three hours lecture/discussion each week.

Course Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify and implement literacy assessment protocols, ensuring that results are interpreted, appropriately shared, and reported with accuracy for a variety of uses.
- Infer and analyze assessment bias and assessment errors to ensure accurate measurement and explanation of data.
- Determine appropriate technology and literacy assessment tools to ensure that progress monitoring and accurate instructional strategies are employed to enhance student literacy skills.
