PSYC 227 - Educational Psychology


Studies the principles of psychology that relate to the teaching-learning process. Topics include theories of learning and cognitive development, motivation, methods and media of instruction, individual differences, measurement, and evaluation. PREREQUISITE(S): A grade of C or better in PSYC 100 , or consent of department. Three hours lecture/discussion each week.

3 semester hours

Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Discuss theories of cognitive and moral development.
  • Identify educational programs from preschool to adolescence.
  • Demonstrate how student diversity affects the educational process.
  • Discuss the behavioral theories of learning.
  • Construct an effective lesson.
  • Discuss student centered and constructivism approaches to instruction.
  • Accommodate instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Acquire techniques to motivate students to learn.
  • Demonstrate how to create effective learning environments.
  • Describe learners with exceptionalities.
  • Acquire methods to assess student learning.
  • Identify and interpret standardized tests.
