NURS 108 - Practical Nursing Capstone


(ECEC and TP/SS only)

Practical nursing capstone pathway for nursing students who have successfully completed at least the first semester of the associate degree Nursing (RN) program. Includes the theoretical concepts of clinical reasoning, nursing process, teaching-learning culture, caring, growth and development, evidence-based practice, delegation, conflict and basic human needs as they relate to nursing care. Psychomotor and affective skills are taught and practiced. The course includes a review for the NCLEX-PN at the end of the course. PREREQUISITE(S): NURS 113 , NURS 114 , NURS 121 . COREQUISITE(S): NURS 109 . Four hours lecture each week.

Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate adherence to legal and ethical standards in nursing practice, specifically tailored to pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide effective care for pediatric, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care patients.
  • Identify and implement practices to minimize potential complications arising from health procedures and existing conditions in pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care.
  • Utilize clinical reasoning skills to deliver nursing care that integrates knowledge of growth and development, prevention, and early detection for pediatric, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care patients.
  • Provide holistic care that supports the emotional, mental, and social well-being of patients in pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care.
  • Provide comfort and assistance with daily living activities for pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care patients.
  • Utilize technology and informatics in pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care settings to improve patient care, communication, and collaboration.
  • Identify and apply safe practices to minimize health and environmental hazards for patients and healthcare personnel in pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and acute care settings.
