ARTT 241 - Enameling I


(R only)

An introduction to traditional techniques with emphasis on expression and craftsmanship. Exploration of basic methods of preparation, application, firing, and finishing vitreous enamel on copper. Course may be repeated for audit without limit. Two hours lecture, four hours studio each week. Formerly AR 124.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Explain techniques, aesthetics, and concepts of enameling to others in a classroom setting. (Observational Skill)
  • Create aesthetically-pleasing objects that demonstrate individual expression using organic, geometric, and abstract shapes. (Observational Skill)
  • Experiment with various techniques in enameling including methods of preparation, application, firing, and finishing vitreous enamel on copper and fine silver. (Technical Skill)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of craftsmanship and develop quality craftsmanship in his or her own work. (Technical Skill)
