ARTT 263 - Professional Practice for the Visual Artist

In this capstone course of the A.F.A. curriculum, students develop an artist statement, résumé, portfolio, and slides in preparation for a formal presentation that conveys their experiences and skills as an emerging artist. PREREQUISITE(S): Completion of first year of the A.F.A. curriculum. Two hours studio/laboratory each week. Formerly AR 275.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

Construct and organize a quality and professional portfolio.
Review all work and decide what to include into his or her portfolio.
Decide what is missing and needs to be added to his or her portfolio.
Professionally present his or her work (this may include matting, mounting, and shrink wrapping work).
Put together slides and/or a CD-Rom of portfolio pieces.
Prepare a complete application to transfer to a higher academic institution.
Develop a resume.
Present his or her portfolio in front of a group of peers, faculty, and professionals at the end of the semester.
