HINM 170 - Management of Health Information (TP/SS only) CE
This course introduces the students to management techniques for controlling functions in a health record department, such as request for proposals, contracts, and personnel. Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills are necessary. PREREQUISITE(S): CMAP 120 , HINM 133 , HINM 146 and HINM 115 , or consent of program coordinator. One and one-half hours lecture, one hour laboratory each week. Formerly HI 113.

Course Outcomes: Upon course completion, a student will be able to:
- Describe the components of management and how they relate to running a health record department.
- Discuss the four functions of management: planning, organizing, directing and controlling, and how they are applied in the operation of a health record department.
- Investigate and report on a topic related to management in a health setting.
- Prepare a report on a local transcription center.
- Design a floor plan for a Health Information department.
- Develop a job description and a job procedure for a function in a Health information department.
