HINM 175 - Automation of Health Information (TP/SS only) CE
This course introduces the students to computer applications in health care. Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills are necessary. PREREQUISITE(S): CMAP 120 , HINM 133 , HINM 146 and HINM 115 , or consent of program coordinator. One and one-half hours lecture, one hour laboratory each week. Formerly HI 114.
2 semester hours
Course Outcomes: Upon course completion, a student will be able to:
- Discuss significance of the electronic health record (EHR).
- Identify management techniques for controlling automated functions in a health record department, such as request for proposals, contracts, etc
- Participate in the development of a data base for the health information program.
- Identify and discuss computer terminology and applications in a health environment.
- Define various levels of licensing within the field
- Recognize the function of the HIM professional in the future.
- Assign appropriate numbers or identify electronic numbering activities
- Recognize the different filing systems and their appropriate use
- Adhere to ethical standards
