HINM 210 - Statistics for Health Information

(TP/SS only) CE

This course includes topics covering health data statistics and data presentation. The student will gain an in-depth knowledge of basic hospital statistics and application of the same. Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills are necessary. PREREQUISITE(S): CMAP 120 , HINM 133 , HINM 146 and HINM 115 , or consent of program coordinator. One and one-half hours lecture, one hour laboratory each week. Formerly HI 203.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

Determine the most appropriate use of these health care statistics in Health Information management.
Evaluate healthcare statistics, including mortality and morbidity rates, autopsy rates, measures of central tendency, and dispersion.
Display data generated from health care statistics using the most appropriate tables graphs and figures (i.e. frequency tables, bar graphs, histograms, pare to diagrams, pie charts).
