HINM 215 - Performance Improvement in Health Information (TP/SS only) CE
This course includes topics covering performance improvement. The student will be introduced to the concepts of medical care evaluation, concurrent review, and the importance of accurate data display. Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills are necessary. PREREQUISITE(S): CMAP 120 , HINM 133 , HINM 146 and HINM 115 , or consent of program coordinator. One and one-half hours lecture, one hour laboratory each week. Formerly HI 204.

Course Outcomes: Upon course completion, a student will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of oversight agency requirements for quality review activities in health care facilities.
- Describe commonly used methods for assessing and improving the quality of care and services provided in health care facilities.
- Describe the roles of Health Information Management, Risk Management and Utilization Management in the quality initiatives of a health care facility.
- Define the role of the quality improvement activities in physician credentialing / appointment/reappointment and employee performance.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability to design an on going monitoring program including monitoring development, data collection, display and analysis, determination of action plan and follow up.
