TVRA 101 - Video Editing for Broadcast


(R only)

An introduction to the procedures and equipment used to manipulate video and audio using professional non-linear editing software. Hands-on projects allow students to edit still and animated images, sounds, and video to create professional quality projects suitable for broadcast, educational, and corporate use. Assessment Level(s): ENGL 101 /ENGL 101A , READ 120 . Two hours lecture, four hours laboratory each week. Formerly TR 101.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Analyze the effectiveness and value of current theatrical practices exhibited by the entertainment industry professionals.
  • Demonstrate comprehension of computer file management by creating new folders on the computer’s hard drive, transferring files to and from data storage devices, and saving and retrieving files from proper location.
  • Create and output video/audio projects using broadcast standards (NTSC) as well as other file types for multiple purposes including web, mobile and commercial.
  • Identify specified file names and formats.
  • Demonstrate the ability to import still images into computer programs and create simple graphic elements
  • Demonstrate the ability to capture video/audio files into computer.
  • Manipulate and compress images and audio files for use in various editing formats.
  • Apply editing choices that further the story and manipulate timing and pacing of project based on audience appeal.
  • Interpret instructions on video scripts.
  • Prepare simple outlines, storyboards, or scripts for projects.
