CMSC 266 - Programming for Digital Forensics


Focuses on new programming and problem solving techniques for digital forensics. Students learn how to write simple to intermediate-level programs that automate searching, interpretation, extraction, bookmarking, and external reporting of data encountered during the examination of computer systems. PREREQUISITE(S): CMSC 140  or consent of department. Three hours each week. Formerly NWIT 266

3 semester hours

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Describe the history and organization of the programming language for computer forensics.
  • Compile, debug and run programs.
  • Perform programming techniques to analyze local file-system data.
  • Examine evidence using forensics libraries from variety of programs.
  • Evaluate data analysis software tools that will be used to analyze and report on data retrieved from computer systems.
