BLDG 172 - HVAC Electricity


(R only) CE

An introduction to the theory and applications of electricity as applied to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Topics include Ohm’s Law, schematics, control and line voltage circuits, meters, motors, and troubleshooting. Three hours lecture, two hours laboratory each week Formerly BU 172.

4 semester hours

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Define Ohm’s Law. (Ohm’s Law)
  • Calculate values using Ohm’s Law. (Ohm’s Law)
  • Identify common electrical components on a schematic. (Schematics)
  • Describe a basic control circuit. (Circuits)
  • Describe a basic line voltage circuit (Circuits)
  • Identify various meters. (Meters)
  • Identify various HVAC motors. (Motors)
  • Describe a basic motor operation. (Motors)
