ARTT 242 - Enameling II


(R only)

A continuation of ARTT 241  with special attention given to techniques that involve integration of enameling and metalwork. PREREQUISITE(S): ARTT 241  or consent of department. Course may be repeated for audit without limit. Two hours lecture, four hours studio each week. Formerly AR 125.

Course Outcomes:
Upon course completion, a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate creative problem solving through the application of abstract theoretical concepts, development of observational skills, and the use of technical skills.

  • Select appropriate materials and methods for creating assigned art projects. (Observational Skill)
  • Create aesthetically-pleasing objects that demonstrate individual expression using organic, geometric, and abstract shapes. (Observational Skill)
  • Analyze, read, and write about techniques, methods, and aesthetic principles of various enameling techniques. (Observational Skill)
  • Explain techniques, aesthetics, and concepts of enameling to others in a classroom setting. (Observational Skills)
  • Examine and analyze aesthetic problems. (Observational Skill)
  • Experiment with advanced techniques in enameling and metalsmithing including methods of preparation, application, firing, and finishing vitreous enamel on copper, steel and fine silver. (Technical skill)
  • Evaluate appropriate procedures and methods. (Technical skill)
